Creative Capital Awards

Creative Capital’s unique model is based on the core principle that time and advice are as crucial to an artist’s success as funding. We provide each awardee artist with a flexible, individualized program of advisory support and partner with them to determine how funding and services can best work in concert to help them achieve their goals.

Funding & Non-Monetary Support

We encourage the development of our awardees’ projects and their professional skills through consultations with staff; Creative Capital Artist Retreats and convenings; personalized coaching; promotional support; phone-in clinics for legal, PR, financial planning, business planning, and more; web and technology advice; and partnerships that provide access to crowdfunding platforms and fiscal sponsorship.

Support the Project

Throughout the development of each project, Creative Capital provides funding at strategic moments and helps direct the project to its most successful completion. Our staff meets regularly with awardees to chart their progress and to connect them to resources that help their projects advance.

Support the Individual

Creative Capital helps artists acquire skills that enhance their capacity for creative and professional success through access to advisors, consultants, business and financial planning, and other career development opportunities.

Build Community

The Creative Capital Artist Retreat brings together more than 300 artists, arts professionals, and supporters for the exchange of ideas and expertise. The retreat is the only multi-disciplinary convening in the field and offers awardees important networking and collaboration-building opportunities, as well as connections to presenters and producers who can help bring their works to the public. This exciting multi-day occasion includes project presentations by awardees, social gatherings, one on one meetings, and a lot of fun community building time.

Engage the Public

We offer awardees a range of promotional opportunities to maximize the impact and reach of their Creative Capital-supported projects. Artist news and events are featured on Creative Capital’s website and our blog, as well as in our email announcements and newsletters.

2013 Retreat in Williamstown, MA. This four-day event included presentations by 86 artists on their works-in-progress, consultations and networking events, and focus sessions on key issues in the field. Peter Sillen (2005 Film/Video awardee) and C41 Media interviewed Creative Capital staff, artists, consultants and supporters to learn more about the transformative experience.

Awardee Loan Fund

Creative Capital's Awardee Loan Fund offers short-term loans to awardees who are developing a new project. The Loan Fund is supported by the Estate of Theo Westenberger and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and is administered by Education Affiliates Federal Credit Union.

Crowdfunding Partnerships

Creative Capital’s Kickstarter page features our awardees’ current and past crowdfunding projects.

Services & Networks

We provide our awardees with memberships for Fractured Atlas, an artist organization that offers access to fiscal sponsorship and health and liability insurance, and the Alliance of Artist Communities, which provides a free directory of artists' residencies around the world.
